NHS Lothian are exploring the options for a social prescribing programme for Edinburgh.
Social prescriptions are a way of offering an intermediary service that connects patients to community activities and opportunities. Many of you will be familiar with sign-posting your clients on to other useful services and projects. Social prescribing is an extension of this great work Community Health Initiatives’ already do, by creating more direct referral routes out from GPs and primary care.
Viewed as an additional option to medical referrals, social prescriptions can be for a wide-range of activities and services: think walking groups, welfare advice, cookery classes or community gardening.
Work in the City of Edinburgh is still at an early stage. However an initial meeting this March is the chance to learn a bit more about social prescribing, what the benefits could be for communities, and how Community Health Initiatives’ can support this model.
Date & Time: Monday 7th March at 2.30pm
