Several organisations across the City of Edinburgh provide support to carers and their families.
What’s interesting is that the different voluntary sector partners delivering this support have a central referral point. And this referral service is managed between the Council and local NHS.
The Edinburgh Carer Support Team can receive self referrals, and referrals from GP surgeries and other public sector bodies. This is a model that could be of interest to some Forum members, and is striking as a very practical example of what ‘integration’ between public and voluntary sector partners can look like.
A recent visit to Care4Carers at St Margaret’s House provided lots of useful information about how carers are cared for Edinburgh. If you are working with members of a community that are acting as carers for a family member, do remember that these wonderful support organisations exist.
